Orissa suffering innings defeat in Ranji Trophy match against Bengal has become routine affair. It was no different this time when the two sides met each other for the 15th time in East Zone tournament. Bengal hammered Orissa by an innings and 76 runs on the second day of their three-day match at Barabati Stadium today.
This was Orissa’s 14th defeat overall and 11th by an innings against Bengal in Ranji Trophy. Electing to bat after captain Bisuddhananda Jena won the toss, Orissa were sent packing for a paltry 70. In reply, Bengal took a lead of 200 runs by declaring their first innings at 270 for four.
Orissa lost the match when they were bowled out for 124 in the second innings. Ashokananda Jena was only Orissa batsman who showed resistance, hitting a defiant 54 in the second innings. Orissa opening batsman Asit B Goswami made his first-class debut in this match.
